August

August  2:  Rain in the house.  Sorry...no pictures on this one.  We had a furious storm this morning, heavy wind, fierce lightning, and buckets of rain.  When it was over, I went to the house to find a lake inside.  Investigation revealed that while the roof is in place and in good shape, the seams between the roofs of the one-story sections and the two-story section had not yet been sealed, so whatever water hit the side of the house poured right down INTO the house, and with the high wind, that was a LOT of water.  Well, I sealed the flashins to the housewrap right away to prevent a repeat of that little joy.  This experience was a real blessing, because we plan to install the cellulose insulation on Tuesday, and begin the major drywall push on Wednesday.  All of that would have been ruined in the next major rain if those seams had not been sealed.

August  13:  Walls insulated.  "Shawn the Insulator" (Shawn Robertson from Green Forest, AR) did a wonderful job insulating the exterior walls, as well as a couple of sound control walls on the interior of the house.  Here, he is blowing cellulose insulation that has a combination of water and glue, to make it stick in the stud cavities better and resist settling.  Unlike many companies, he runs a rather dry mix, so that it dries more quickly and does not delay the drywalling.

August  13:  Drywall delivered.  Wildcat Materials from Branson, MO delivered us 14,000 SQFT of drywall to do the house.  I regret I don't have a picture of it actually being delivered; they had a radio remote control truck that grabbed the drywall off the back of the truck and lifted it in through a second story window.  Very, very cool...

August  14:  Drywalling starts.  Drywall starts in earnest.  Mark Baysinger is going to town putting up the drywall.  I just hope I can keep ahead of him on the last few things I need to build/install on the first floor...

August  24:  Kitchen Cabinets.  Brought the cabinets in from storage so they would be ready the instant that the walls were textured and the installer showed up.
